When people talk about governance they’re usually talking about the role of the board. Boards exist to ensure an organisation is well-run, and well-governed so that members and stakeholder groups can have confidence in the organisation remaining a going concern and focussed on serving their needs.
Good governance helps an organisation:
- Improve performance
- Have a defined vision for the future
- Take a big picture view of the organisation separate from the operations
- Ensure there is accountability and oversight of operations
- Manage risk
- Find the right balance between making short-term gains and building long-term prosperity
If you are a Member of the Glenfield Community Centre, you are also entitled to put your name forward for consideration to become a member of the Governance Group. Nominations are normally accepted as part of the Agenda for the Annual General Meeting. The Group meets every second month.

Meet the current standing Executive and Members
Raymond Tan
Chair
Raymond joined the Governance Group May 2023. He has previously worked in Auckland Council for over 10 years and hopes to contribute to the group. He is a certified governance professional with over 20 years experience involved with several not-for-profit organisations. Raymond is a chartered member of the Institute of Directors and a fellow of Governance NZ. As Chair of Governance he leads the Society, chairs Governance meetings including all General Meetings and is the official spokesperson for the Centre.
Andrew Shaw
Deputy-Chair
Andrew was elected to the Governance Group in 2022. A previous Kaipatiki Local board appointee for the previous three years, he is very familiar with the work of the Centre and supportive of the staff. As Deputy-Chair of the Governance Group and Executive Committee, he is there to step in to the role of Chair in Raymond’s absence.
Alex Croft
Secretary
Alex joined the Governance group in 2020. As Secretary, he is the principal contact person for the Society’s Governance Group, prepares the Agenda for the Annual General Meeting and maintains the membership information. As Secretary, Alex gives notice of meetings, oversees the correspondence of the Society, and keeps the register of members.
Frankie Godfrey-Robson
Treasurer
Frankie has been an Executive member for over ten years and the 2015 – 2018 Chair. As Treasurer, she is responsible for ensuring the Society meets its fiduciary responsibilities and presents the audited financial statements at the Annual General Meeting.
Upasana Nigam
Governance Group Member
Upasana is a community culture evangelist and an IT professional who wants to work in community for community who joined our Governance in 2020.
Bruce Stone
Methodist Church of NZ Appointee
Bruce Stone is one of two constitutional appointees by the Methodist Church of NZ. Bruce was appointed in March 2022.
Erica Hannam
Kaipātiki Local Board Liaison
With the 2022 Local Government elections, Erica Hannam has been appointed as liaison between the Kaipātiki Local Board (KLB) and the Governance Group. She is inspired by our enthused and thriving community-led organisations.
